Floppy Disk Data Recovery
Always keep floppy disks away from devices that transmit magnetic fields.
This includes mobile phones. They transmit a regular pulse that can damage the data on the floppy disk. Other devices are metal detectors or scanners, used by customs or security personnel when checking your baggage.
Other possible causes for damage to the floppy disk are dirt or sand. If this ends up in the floppy disk slot, it may cause scratches on the magnetic disk.
Some possible floppy disk errors are:
- The floppy disk had not been formatted
- The floppy disk is not recognized by the operating system
- Strange sounds are heard when the disk drive is attempting to read the floppy disk.
When an error message appears on your computer screen, floppy disk sectors may be damaged.
In most cases we will be able to partially recover data from the sectors that are not corrupted. Reconstructing damaged data is also possible.

What you must never do
In case of hard disk failure:
Secure your data. Do NOT use the hard disk if an operating system is installed and in use (switch off your computer). Do not install any software on the hard disk.
Never try to open the hard disk yourself. This may only be done in a clean room. Dust in the air will deposit on the platters and the reading heads will not be able anymore to accurately read the data from the magnetic fields on the platters. Even the slightest deviation in this delicate process constitutes corrupt files and destroys the data making data recovery impossible.
